Even during these difficult times, the Exchanges to Internships program continues to provide active FLEX and UGRAD alumni with the opportunity for professional development within Ukrainian governmental institutions at the national and local levels. At the same time, EtoI participants help these institutions with their additional tasks and responsibilities.
After 24.02.2022, the EtoI program was adjusted to ensure the safety of all participants and allowed participants to conduct internships remotely and/or in a hybrid format.
During the last 10 months, more than 20 current and former participants were involved in the work with the Ukrainian government at the national and local levels. They provided assistance in establishing new international partnerships between Ukrainian and international institutions, worked on public administration policies during martial law, organized meetings between Ukrainian state officials and international partners, and translated official letters for international cooperation.
In May 2022, the Exchanges to Internships Humanitarian Grants opportunity was launched for the participants of the EtoI program which provided the chance to organize grant projects to help Ukrainians with humanitarian needs during the war. The humanitarian projects were organized by the EtoI interns, which provided support such as medical supplies to hospitals, humanitarian aid for internally displaced persons affected by the war, English learning opportunities for Ukrainian doctors, food and medications for animal shelters, and many other participant-led projects.
