The “Exchanges to Internships” Program is a professional development initiative, which is funded by the U.S. Embassy, Kyiv, and administered by the American Councils for International Education, Ukraine.
The program aims at active, responsible, and capable young people, namely, university or postgraduate students and/or young specialists who are graduates of the U.S. government exchange programs (FLEX, UGRAD, UBL PIE, PFP, Open World, etc.) and have experience studying in the USA. The program provides them with an opportunity to explore the organizational structure of Ukrainian state institutions.
The program consists of several components that boost participants’ professional experience and capacity, namely:
- 3-month educational internship in the Ukrainian government institutions or local self-government authorities in the regions of Ukraine.
- Professional development training/workshops on topics related to public service (structure of the government institutions, public communications, financial system of Ukraine, etc.).
- Regional experience trips to other state or local institutions during your internship to explore the work of other entities in addition to your placement institution.
- Grant project – an opportunity to implement your own initiative in your community based on the gained experience throughout your internship.
The partners of the Program include but are not limited to:
- Ukrainian ministries (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Digital Information, Ministry of Culture and Informational Policy, etc.).
- State agencies (Ukrainian Institute, Art Arsenal, Office of Representative of President of Ukraine in Autonomous Republic of Crimea (“Crimean Platform”).
- City Councils in the regions of Ukraine (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Dnipro City Councils, etc.) – based on the region of your residence.
All activities of interns throughout their internship will be accompanied by a supervisor who is a professional working at the placement institution, as well as with organizational support by the “Exchanges to Internships” team.
Eligibility criteria:
- Alumni of any of USG programs (U.S. Government academic and professional exchange programs: i.e., FLEX, UGRAD, UBL PIE, PFP, Open World, etc.).
- Aged 26 or under when applying.
- Students of Bachelor degree program (3rd year of studies and older), Master degree program, Ph.D. program, or recent graduates.
